Imagine the world without diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cystic fibrosis, or if those paralysed could walk, or run again? Wouldn’t that be such an amazing thing?
Superman who broke his backbone and became bedridden for the rest of his life while he was alive almost got his walking ability back, if embryonic stem cell research wasn’t as controversial.
Embryonic stem cells are cells taken from embryos (fertilised egg, before becoming a baby), and these cells, given the right condition, can become any cells you want it to be - brain cells, nerve cells, muscle cells, eye cells, hair cells, etc. However, those religious extremists and pro-life people have made a HUGE fuss about it, thus, embryonic stem cell research was called to a stop in most countries.
And just yesterday, scientists have found that they can make skin cells into stem cells!! I wouldn’t go into details on how they do it, but basically, they used nanotechnology and gene therapy, which made the skin cells turned into stem cells! I’ve always been a fan of gene therapy!

Are we heading towards a disease free world soon? :) Well, I doubt that, but then again, if this works out and they are able to get consistent result from it, there is hope for all those people with <insert any disease you can think of>! It’s the next miracle!
WOO HOO! You might think this has nothing to do with you, but if you haven’t been drinking green tea, or eating fruits like berries, OR if any of your blood related family members have Alzheimer’s, chances are, you are quite likely to get Alzheimer’s, and lose all your muscular controls and memory.
I’ll talk more about berries and green tea next time - they’re anti-oxidants, and you’ve probably heard this a million times, but what are they? And maybe I’ll also talk about Omega-3, why are you taking them? Are they seriously any good?

ooh, i was into genetics before medicine came along! ;p oh, and i forgot to tell u, if u do go to parisi’s on king will, try ordering their lamb (i think it was lamb)– we saw it being served at the next table, and it was so superhuge and juicy and yummy-looking that we sorta regretted not ordering it ;p and jt skip the tiramisu, seriously ;)
I no car lar, and no one wanna go with me. Also busy packing!! Sighs! but I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Tiramisu not nice?!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE TIRAMISUU!

O.o thanks for the scare! I gotta memorize gene therapy for my exams too, how stem cells are extracted, etc…
anw, i dun think we’ll be in a disease free world. there’s always something new coming out due to the nature of humankind.

that’s true to an extend, but nothing can be perfect. the therapy will have its flaws as well. diseases change because of evolution.

Haha. But then again, you have to weigh that not all therapy/treatment is 100% successful though. haha. guys stuff aren’t expensive. it’s the thought that counts!
