I just came back from Mount Gambier, which is 5 hours away from Adelaide, and am suffering from intense neck, shoulder and back pain due to old age too many hours sitting in the car. And I’m super sleepy. *yawns*
Anyway, like I previously said, I got a free ticket for two to a special screening of ‘Hey Hey It’s Esther Blueburger’ which opens nationally on Thursday. The film is shot mostly, or almost entirely in Adelaide, starring Danielle Catanzariti, Keisha Castle-Hughes (The Whale Rider) and Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense & Little Miss Sunshine).

Esther Blueburger (Danielle Catanzariti) is born in a family where she is expected to be the perfect child. In school, she’s the outcast, until she met Sunni (Keisha Castle-Hughes), a punk with a damn cool mother, Mary (Toni Collette). Esther befriended Sunni and tried all sorts of ways, pushing herself beyond limits in order to be ‘normal’ or be one of them. She lied, cheated, did oral sex, kissed a guy, bullied a school girl, etc.
I think for a first timer, Danielle Catanzariti’s acting was FANTASTIC! She did her role really well. It’s funny, heart-warming and I am very sure that a lot of high school students would be able to feel for her, or connect to the film. And true to its tagline, “Sometimes, to fit in you need to stand out” and that’s exactly what Esther did.
Overall, 3.5 / 5 stars! Definitely worth watching!!
