Mt Gambier Getaway 1

Jun invited me to join them to Mt Gambier on Friday. We took off at 5.00am, so that we can reach South Australia’s second largest city by 10.00am (approx. 5 hours).

We had breakfast at Keith, a small town half way through, and it was freezing cold!! I reckon it was probably only about 10-15 degrees! My balls literally shrunk!

The good thing about early morning road trip is you get to see the sunrise. :)

Breakfast consists of no-taste-beef-pie and weird-woody-taste-coffee. Wasn’t a good coffee I must say but that’s what you get when you’re in the middle of nowhere and your only food source and coffee dose is from a petrol station cum mini market cum coffee shop.

We reached there at 10.00am sharp and headed straight to the famous blue lake! Mt. Gambier is known as the city of craters because of volcanic activities thousands of years ago. Apparently, the water is so clean you can drink it straight - having done microbiology, I think it’s not the best idea.

Wei How, ME!!! & Jun

Mt. Gambier is a quaint little town, and it’s so small you think it’s like a kampung (village). A civilised one. Come on, they’ve even got sex shop alright. No kidding.

Being such a small and quiet place, I wonder do people actually hear others moaning when they have sex. Hmm.. Anyway, this reminds me of the time when we all entered a sex shop in Sydney and the guy asked for my ID. Just me because he thought I’m a minor!! -_- Well, that’s a compliment I guess.

Anyway, we then headed to the Centenary Tower where the dragon which scavenge for food in the Blue lake used to live. I’m joking. It was built in commemoration of the naming of Mount Gambier. Nothing spectacular except you get a beautiful view of the whole civilised city, and not so civilised part of the place.

The Browne Lake, just right next to the Blue Lake.

It was pretty cloudy that day, but hey, clouds make good photographs too! :)

That two places took us about 2-3 hours. Because we did a 45 minutes tour down to the Blue Lake’s surface, and the pumping station (Blue Lake is Mt Gambier’s only water source).

So.. that means.. time for lunch! I always look forward to meals just because I’m such a glutton. It was Good Friday so most of the shops were closed. We had a choice of Malaysian, Thai, Indian or Bars, and we opted for Bar food. Cos there’s alcohol!!!!! And bars always have good ole’ burger. :D

And that’s exactly what I had!

Beef patty, Bacon, Egg, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Beetroots… YUM! They used MSG (monosodium glutamate) on the chips. Major Eww! I still miss my beer battered chips in Sydney! SO good! Boohoo.

And no bar meals are complete without some alcohol. Heh!
Alrightey. I’ll stop here and continue Part 2 tomorrow because I need the bathroom now.
