Melbourne makes me fat

April 24th, 2008

** Lots of food ahead. Read: LOTS! Read at your own risk.

We went to pick Shen up from Swinburne University in some suburb and went for some Korean food.

I had a jijigugu. I’m joking. I don’t know what is it called but it’s basically seafood with tofu. It failed to seduce me from its look, but when I crushed the tofu and tried them, I was sold!

After that, we went to Al Fredo for ice-cream. Remember I told you about the durian flavoured gelati at the best gelati place in Melbourne? It was so good we went back there for more gelati. Super YUM!

After that we went to Cho Gao (In hokkien it means become dog) but in this context, I don’t know what the owner of the place actually mean. It was very zen, decorated with old chinese furnitures, buddha statues, red lanterns, and lots of incense. It looked almost like tao lifestyle cafe in Kuching but this is wayyy bigger and is a bar. A very nice place I must say (situated in Melbourne Central right opposite the state library; pretty sure it’s on the third floor).

We downed one beer and then headed home for an hour sleep! They ran out of Hoegaarden (the best beer ever!), so I opted for James Squire, which wasn’t good but not too bad. Beck’s was horrible!

We had Vietnamese for dinner at Richmond (a tiny Vietnamese village in Melbourne). It’s been more than 2 years since I last had Vietnamese Beef Noodle - the last time in Sydney.

With Vietnamese Beef Noodle, you put the greens:

into the soup:

Done!

The next day, Shen sent me off at the bus terminal where I caught a bus to Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport. But before that, we went for some authentic French crepe at a tiny alley along Collins Street. It felt like we were in France!!

The super tiny alley where there are a row of food outlets.

The chef:

was from Adelaide!I know I know, generally speaking, everyone’s moving AWAY from Adelaide. When I say everyone, I’m referring to young people.

My Fun Guy Crepe. Guess what’s in it.

Fungi.

That wasn’t hard. :P Fungi with Swiss Cheese and some greens. Mushrooms with cheese or butter can never go wrong!

And that ends my FANTASTIC trip to Melbourne.
