Tell Me I’m Here

Anna at the Inspire office called me from Sydney one day and we were talking about schizophrenia and she recommended me the book ‘Tell me I’m here’ by Anne Deveson, so I went to the libray and hunted for it.

Anne Deveson is an multi award winning writer, director and producer. And she was also granted an award from the Queen.

Jonathan had schizophrenia when he was 17 years old. Schizophrenia is a silent robber. You don’t see it coming, and the shift is so sudden, you probably cannot accept it. Jonathan started speaking to himself, and slowly become violent.

And as Anne starts to know more about schizophrenia, Jonathan’s illness has become full blown and he was wandering the street, and is totally out of his mind. But Anne, being a mum, never gave up and continued to fight and do everything she could to bring her son back.

Tell me I’m here is one of the most honest story you’ll ever find and it truly tell you what schizophrenia is all about (although there are many different forms of schizophrenia), and it portrays how much love a mother can show her child. A good read, althought it’s a tad long for my standard - I am super lazy. :P
