A Wally-ed Weekend

I had possibly one of the best weekends I ever had in Adelaide. One of those weekends when I have nothing to worry about and nothing to think about.

Ben a.k.a. Wally invited to stay over his place on Friday. I knew Wally earlier this year but we never really talked because he was so quiet, it’s scary. Now, he’s one of my closest friends and talk so much and he can make you laugh your head off with his wally-ness. You know the kind of friend where you can lose all your inhibitions and don’t have to worry about being wrong. A friend who will disagree with your opinion and tell you what he thinks. A friend who will let you know you’re an idiot or a wally when you’ve done something stupid. The kind of friends who you know you can trust when you need an honest opinion and answer your question even though it’s the stupidest question ever.

Anyway, his house is on top of the hill overlooking the entire city, and you can even see the beach and the horizon line seperating the ocean and the sky. It faces west so try to imagine this, purple sky with pink soft floating clouds and a stunning sunset. His bedroom faces west too, with two huge windows that provides the BEST scenery everyone dreams of.

Friday night was spent playing snooker, feeling awkward, a super good stew (Read: SUPER DUPER GOOD), chess, a stupid movie and laughing non-stop from 1.30am until 2.00am! And my first time trying English and French mustard! English mustard is a lot like wasabi.

Saturday started off with the Wally’s phone vibrating on the table! zzzt zzzt zzzt! WALLY!! I was wrapped up in cotton - the softest pillows and blanket (cotton pillow case and quilt cover is the best damn thing ever!) - and the last thing I wanted to do is wake up but when I wake up, I can hardly get back to sleep, so I just die in my cocoon until I had to get up.

And then porridge, LATTE! (if you know me you know nothing makes me happier than starting a morning with a good cup of latte) more laughing, pool, walking the dog, Ben showing his cocktail skill - he made me two glasses of dirty cowboys (half shot butterscotch, two shots baileys, milk, cream and chocolate syrup), pumpkin soup, and had a good talk with the family. I laughed so much the whole night and day my mouth hurt! The consequence of having a wally friend. I left at almost 4.00pm although our initial plan was to leave at 2.00pm. Oh, I also had a go on the trampoline - wicked thing!! Definitely makes you dislike gravity after that - I do realise gravity is good! It’s just.. one of the best weekends ever. It took away all the worries and restore back some sense of human in me - the feeling of being in a warm family, sitting at the dinner table with the family, and just having someone you can talk about stupid things and laugh the whole night!!

When I reached home, it felt almost like I have just woken up from a dream so good it’s unreal. I must say that it is still a bit unreal to me especially when these three years, I have been eating dinner alone in front of my laptop. The only company I have is whoever talking to me on msn. Then living in a house where it feels like you’re staying alone, and the only thing you can talk to are the walls. The only sound you hear is either from the radio or the passing cars on the highway a few metres away. It is unreal to have a day when I feel more human, feel like I still can go through what a typical family goes through - the noises, the laughters, the discussion, all those little moments. I don’t even know where to start and I don’t think I can thank Wally and his family enough. It’s my first English family experience!! I have stayed with Australians, now with Britishs! :D

Although I have to admit my wally-itis is becoming more severe now.

p.p.s.: I also *totally* enjoyed the British accent in the house!! LOL! I still find English accent very cute - especially since I’m addicted to Britain’s Got Talent in YouTube at the moment.

p.s.: I use “Actions” on Photoshop - i.e. it watermarks for me automatically according to how I programmed it, and I forgot I used my mobile to take the pictures above, thus the oversized watermark which was meant for pictures from my digital camera.

I know what it feels to lose inhibitions like that with true friends. Alas, they are hard to find these days….
